173rd Airborne Brigade - Operation McClain

by Mike Nemeth January 19, 2017

On 19 January 1968, the 173rd Airborne Brigade began Operation McClain in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The 173rd took part in 14 designated campaigns in Vietnam from May 1965 until August 1971, the longest combat deployment of any American unit since the Revolutionary War.

When training in Taiwan prior to their deployment, the locals gave the solider the nickname "Tien Bing" - Chinese for "Sky Soldiers."
